Thanying is a conversational address to the title of Mom Chao Ying (Her Serene Highness Princess, the usual rank of granddaughter of a king ).
The Thanying Restaurant is named in honor of H.S.H. Princess Sulabh–Valleng Visuddhi who was once the head cook in the Sukhothai Palace kitchen for her half-sister, Queen Rambhai Barni of King Rama the Seventh.
Specializing in the kind of recipes which Princess Sulabh would once used there, it is run by the princess’s son, M.R. (Mom Rajawong, the fourth royal generation) Sorut Visuddhi and his business partner, Mr. Kriangkrai Unhanandana, a renown Thai actor.
The Thanying first opened some 20 years ago on Soi Pipat and three years later has moved to an old house on Pramuan Street ever since.
Since the Thanying was recommended in the New York Times and other leading local and foreign magazines as one of the Bangkok ’s best restaurants, it has attracted a number of foreign visitors.
For such people, unfamiliar with the food, there are set menu at 660 baht net, 792 baht net, and 990 baht net which serve such typical fare as TOM YAM GOONG and there is also a long and thoughtful compilation of traditional favorites at moderate prices.
There is only one Thanying Restaurant - no branches.
The Thanying is about three minute walk from Surasak BTS Station. It is located at number 10 Thanon Pramuan (Pramuan St.), off Silom Rd., between Silom 17 and 19, Bangrak, Bangkok 10500, Thailand .
